Slocum Family relates back to the family of Sir Thomas Slocombe of Bristol England.
Reasons:
1. Thomas was a rich Merchant & Shipper of good
2. John his son, married Mary Roberts
listed in 1623 visitations - family connection to nobility.
3. A ship named "FALCON" which landed in Jamestown, Virginia in 1619
John Slocombe - part of the London Company - his name mentioned with this ship.
4. Anthony's close connection to the Harvey Family - William Harvey of Taunton, Ma. [step brother] & Sir John Harvey of London & North Carolina
5. Giles close connection to the Cooke family. Arthur Cooke of London & Portsmouth, RI, signed Giles will - & wife likely related to Arthur and Thomas Cooke of Rhode Island.
6. Sir John Slocombe - son of Thomas of Bristol - John & family left Bristol
after 1600 - may have moved his family to London - Assumption: John being a part of the London Company and a shipper of goods to Jamestown - research should be conducted in London and area for marriage records of Anthony & Giles.
[For a stretch of the imagination, in April 1637 [same time as the speedwell]
landed in Jamestown carrying Sir John Harvey, newly appointed Gov. of Jamestown, Virginia. Did Anthony & Giles travel with Sir John Harvey?]
Landscape sketch from photo taken at Dunster Castle, Somerset, England
This is the area of Exmoor National Park in Somerset England, this gives us an idea of what the landscape looks like around Dunster Castle and the beginning of Exmoor. A piece of land [uninhabited]
located in Exmoor national park - named Slo Combe - the origin of the Slocombe name - would look similar to this print.
